Featured Artist: Sakshi Gandhi

I am Sakshi. I'm 19 and I live in India. I love reading, writing, traveling, going for walks and learning new things. I like to celebrate the little things in life - like talking to a kid or cooking for my family. I am currently a college student and pursuing an education in psychology. I share my writings with the hope that it becomes not only a source of expression for me, but also a connection with readers that makes them feel understood. I hope you have a good time with me.

What does poetry mean to you?

More than anything, poetry for me is self expression. No matter what I am feeling, I can always write a poem about it and feel like somehow someone understands. I don't know if this makes any sense but I feel like the universe projects itself through me in the form of poetry.

What inspires your poetry?

Deep emotions that are hard to put into words inspire my poetry. Whenever I'm unable to express myself or feel overwhelmed with all that I'm feeling - poetry is what happens. Also, rain. Rain makes me poetic.

Which are most important to you: (1) joy, (2) peace, (3) patience, (4) kindness, (5) self-control, (6) faithfulness, (7) gentleness, (8) love, or (9) goodness? If you can, explain why.

Peace, Kindness and Love are very important to me. I think, without peace all other experiences in life become blurry. It's like, if I am not quiet, I can't really listen to anything else. I also believe that kindness is really important. Everyone on this earth has a story that's beautiful and worth listening to. A story that if read from the protagonist's perspective makes sense. As in, everyone has a reason to be who they are, and kindness allows us to find that "life force" that is so similar in all of us in spite of all the differences. And what can I say about love. Love to me feels like the source of life itself. We are made of love and there's nothing much that explains it other than that it's beautiful.

What sort of things are you looking forward to improving this year?

I am looking forward to being stronger this year. Physically yes, but also in terms of strengthening my belief in myself. I am also looking forward to being more in harmony with nature. Getting closer to the life I imagine.

What is one big dream you have?

To create a life that's true to who I am. Closer to nature. Working on things that align with my identity. Life that's fulfilling and meaningful to me.

Featured Poem:

It's been so long

Since my soul has felt free

Without this constant companion

Of constriction gripping me

Like someone tied a tight rope

Around my heart and has been pulling

The confinement if it seems stronger

Than the constriction that's killing

It's amusing and scary

How powerful our thoughts could be

For thoughts and choices are spectrums

Through what we really see

I wish for my thoughts to be clear

And may I choose to be happy

For freedom is not only a right

But also a responsibility.
